Elan-Marie “Jay Avo” Jordan Musician and Producer was born on April the 9th 1996 to a family of many talents,it was certainly inevitable that music would course through her veins. What began as a teenage obsession fueled by raw talent would quickly develop into a fruitful career and lasting passion.
She began her career as a performing artist playing the Steel Pan for 10 years+ at Hotels and local events across the island of Barbados such as Pan Fusion, Pan Pun De Sand, NIFCA and CARIFESTA XII. She also Taught the Bass guitar to a small class of students and played piano and bass for the junior and senior choirs at her Alma Mater Lester Vaughan, the place where she realized she had a true passion for the performing arts and music production.
At the age of 18, she began learning how to use music recording software such as logic pro and reason from watching YouTube videos and in 2018 she put out her first major track “Dem is De Tings I Like” a Bashment Soca song featuring her vocals. at first, it was a joke among her friends, but due to popularity, she decided to release it. Also, in 2018 she produced artist Malakah first single “Queen” a pop song, which became a hit in Jamaica. She has two original songs “Chillaxin’” and “Dibbylations” which were hits at her concert. Elan also has a passion for creating comedy videos you can find some of her best works on her Instagram page.
Her musical influences include DJ Ky, Timberland, DJ Puffy, Bass Ink Productions, Soca, Zouk and Latin. Her main styles of music productions are Soca, Bashment and Caribbean Pop but she is not limited to just those styles as she can adapt to a wide variety of musical stylings.
As a venture to raise money to attend music school in Canada she had her very first concert “Elan-Marie & Friends” held at St. Barnabas Church on June 30th, 2019. Where she was backed by Kloud 9 the Band and supported by some of her talented friends. The event was a success and plans are in the work to have another concert next year.
Her achievements to date, include gaining a level 1 L.C.M qualification in ensemble music, Grades 1 – 4 in the Royal Schools of Music Theory exam, she was the Junior Steel Pan tutor at the Central Bank of Barbados Youth Pan Project Summer camp from 2015 – 2019. In her time at school, she was in the first Music CXC class ever and also the first person in the Caribbean to do the technical side of Theatre Arts at CSEC level. In 2016 she became the Lead Steel Panist in the Sing Out Barbados Folk group backing band, this is a group that has been around for 50 years and has been a staple in the Barbadian folk genre. Also, in 2016 she participated in the Crop Over Festival Folk concert alongside Sing Out Barbados.
Currently, she’s pursuing her Diploma in Professional Sound and Music Business a two-year program at Metalworks Institute. When she completes her studies, she hopes that one day she can own her very own music production studio.
